Marksmanship by Radix

Every clue has a valid one-word solution. In some cases, however, the word will not quite fit, and most of the clue must then be disregarded, leaving just an example of the word actually to be entered. Punctuation may or may not mislead. Chambers (2003) is recommended, but does not give one obsolete word (in OED and TEA) or one abbreviation (in OED).
