4008: Knitwear by 149
This was an
excellent challenge with lovely clues. It soon became clear that the “knit”
letters stayed the same, and the “purl” letters changed. This could be
interpreted as the knit stitches appearing on the front of the knitting and the
purl stitches on the back. The abbreviation “k” means knit until the end of the
row. The answers to the asterisked clues changed to items of knitwear and the
grid had to be filled with words from Chambers. This explained the preamble
where Chambers had become the sole reference, instead of its
normal primary reference.
