3979: Huge Ruin (Remote) by Gos

Gos gave us a jigsaw puzzle with clues given in alphabetical order of their answers.  Corrected misprints gave us the name of the writer - EDGAR ALLAN POE. The unclued entries were HOUSE OF USHER and TOMB OF LIGEIA, referring to the titles of films made of Poe’s stories. The title was an anagram of THE RUE MORGUE. An opaque preamble created some mystery and imagination was required to decide on a correct solution. In the end it was simple enough to swap the two unclued entries. The fall of the HOUSE OF USHER and the rise of the TOMB OF LIGEIA allowed a solution where all entries were real words.
Misprinted letters in clues are shown in bold.
